October 18, 2020 - Creation Museum - Noah's Ark

In the morning, Lynnnette and I drove from Lexington north to the Creation Museum, on the southwest outskirts of Cincinnatti.

In its own words:  "The Creation Museum shows why God´s infallible Word, rather than man´s faulty assumptions, is the place to begin if we want to make sense of our world.

This 75,000-square-foot facility allows families to experience earth history as God has revealed it in the Bible. Nearly 150 exhibits feature fearsome animatronic dinosaurs, talking heroes of the faith, and professional displays that honor God´s Word. The museum also boasts a fun-filled, 200-seat special effects theater, a state-of-the-art planetarium, a petting zoo, nature trails, and lots more.

At the heart of the Creation Museum is a chronological retelling of biblical history in seven parts called the Seven C´s. Guests step back in time, beginning with Creation, and fast-forward to Christ´s return. Along the way, they see how God´s Word provides the big-picture answers for our most difficult questions, whether about science, the Bible, or our personal relationship with God.

The Creation Museum is a Christian evangelistic outreach of Answers in Genesis, as is our sister attraction, the Ark Encounter. Located 40 miles from the museum in Williamstown, Kentucky, the Ark Encounter brings to life the Ark of Noah’s day and equips visitors to understand the reality of the events recorded in the book of Genesis."

The Creation Museum opened on May 28, 2007.  It does very well attendance-wise.

Adam in the Garden of Eden.

Noah building his Ark.

Loading her up!

Underway!

And the waters receded.

The museum building is surrounded by a park and garden with walking trails.

The park is very nicely done.

Not too many people were outside on this gloomy day.

We toured the Museum, walked through the park and gardens, checked out the petting zoo, then left to go see the Creation Museum's sister attraction, the Ark Encounter, about a 45 minute drive away, between Cincinnatti and Lexington.

I had an open mind going into the Creation Museum.  I thought it was very well done, with a lot of good information, effectively displayed.  Even if you don't believe, it's interesting and worth a visit.

After parking in the huge Ark Encounter parking lot, we caught a very modern shuttle bus which drove us to the Ark site.  There is a bunch of other stuff in addition to the Ark, but we only had time to visit the Ark which was basically a huge museum and more than enough.  There weren't many people about;  I guess because this is the off-season and also because of the Chinese Flu.

Ark Encounter opened on July 7, 2016, a date (7/7) chosen to correspond with Genesis 7:7: "And Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons' wives entered the ark to escape the waters of the flood."

The centerpiece of the park is a large representation of Noah's Ark based on the Genesis flood narrative contained in the Bible. It is 510 feet long, 85 feet wide, and 51 feet high.

The bow is on the left; stern on the right.  The large bow fin catches the wind like a sail, but is fixed, and is designed to turn the ship into the wind similar to the way a weather van lines up with the wind.   The lower protrusion at the stern is a fixed rudder.  The Ark has no means of self-propulsion.

A pair of elephants are heading for the Ark.

And some giraffes.

The Ark is one big ship.  This is the stern.

The Ark has three decks.

They built the Ark as close as they could to the description in the Bible and also using what they believed was the technology of the day.  As you might expect, most everything was made out of wood.  There is 3.3 million board feet of timber in this ship.

These are cages for the animals with a way to automatically feed and water them.  And remove the waste.  Very clever.  Only eight people were on the Ark to take care of all the animals.

Pottery was used to store liquids.

All modern bears descended from this single type, so they only neede the one pair on the Ark.

The same with the cats -- Lion, Tiger, Jaguar, Cheetah, Mountain Lion, tabby cat -- they all descended from this one type.

Same with dogs.

Cutaway model of the Ark.

A cross-section of the Ark shows how they could let in light on a sunny day.

Per the Bible, only eight people were aboard.  There was no description of the crew quarters so they had to guess what they looked like.  Pretty nice digs if you asked me!

No matter what you think about Noah's Ark, this attraction is novel and worth checking out.
